Hornby Scotrail Class 156
When released, despite great care in producing the Scotrail liveried Class 156 model , it was unfortunate that it featured a rather obvious mistake....namely an incorrect destination of 'Norwich' rather than a more appropriate Scottish one on the front ends! Those of you 'in the know' will also be aware the tooling of the model is based on the units as they were built, and the cab end of a Scotrail Class 156 has, in recent years, changed. These are relatively easy issues to sort with a few basic items and half-an-hour...
Here's what you'll need:
1 x pair of scissors
1 x permanent marker
1 x set of destination blinds (Modelmaster Decals)
1 x small piece of yellow card
(I spoke nicely to one of the guys at my local supermarket, when I spotted the cards they use to restock the shelves in the evenings - they were more than happy to oblige (as well as being slightly bemused..!))
The first task is to obliterate the Norwich destination on each coach. To do this, *carefully* run the permanent marker over the printed 'Norwich' lettering. This should leave you with a blank black destination panel. Then, take your Modelmaster Decals (4347) and select which Scottish destinations you would like to use. Be aware, that these days the new 'electronic' destination panels are the same on both ends (unlike the roller blinds previously installed'). I opted for 'Mallaig'. Follow the instructions - soak in water - and apply. Gently soak any excess water with a piece of tissue, and hey presto - new destinations!
The next task is to add a new door in the corridor connection. Don't panic, though, as we'll be placing the card over the top of the old door. Firstly you need to gently prise the corridor connection off the body. Just gently pull it out (it's just a push fit into the body using 4 small lugs) and then work can begin.

Grab your yellow card, and carefully cut a piece that is a snug fit on the REAR of the corridor connection between the moulded lugs. Fix it to the corridor connection (I used small pieces of insulation tape). Once attached, turn the moulding over and it should look like this:

All that's now required is to re-attach the corridor connection to the front of the unit, carefully locating the lugs into the appropriate holes (and ensuring you have the item the correct way up!). Hey presto...it's done - just the other end to do now....
